There’s something wrong with this Arsenal team.
It’s pretty difficult to write when you’re disgusted at your team. I’m not even angry, I’m beyond angry, I think after anger comes a certain cold detachment from activities involving the club. I didn’t think it could happen to me and I even questioned a friend who went through the same thing, coincidentally he’s a Man United fan.
He’s the happier of the two of us at the moment. As I watched us huff and puff and be largely disappointing I asked myself; what was wrong?
Is it the players? God knows they were mostly crap. Is it the Manager? Excuses are running low for him and for the most part this is his fault really. Is it…I dunno.
This feels very much like Groundhog day. We see this play out again and again and frankly it’s getting rather annoying. It didn’t help to watch a Tottenham team come from a goal behind and win against Swansea. Then you think about how we play them next week and how we’re very likely to lose that on the evidence of what we’ve done.
In a mathematical sense the title race isn’t over, we’re five points behind and if we win every single game we play in from now till the end of the season, then who knows, but from a psychological and emotional level it feels like the end and that’s hugely frustrating.
Then you think of the fact that we have Guardiola and Mourinho probably coming into the league and maybe even Conte…all proven winners, all very good tactical coaches, you know that the EPL is going to be even tougher and when you look at how we’re handling things the future looks quite bleak.
Maybe it’s because the loss is still annoying me, that could be why I’m typing this way, but when you lose 3-2 to an academy team, you tend to worry. I mean when we were that depleted and faced them we got stuffed 8-2, yet we couldn’t manage a 1-0 or 2-0 win? I fear for the team. Psychologically this can’t be good and you think of the morale of our big stars and you just wonder.
Some of them were to blame with Alexis being the main culprit, I can’t really fault Ӧzil especially as he scored one and assisted another and Cech did his best, but where were the others?
Something needs to change in this team. Maybe a new manager, maybe new players, maybe a new approach, but one thing’s for sure, if we keep at this we aren’t going to get any joy out of many a season.
A bright side? Well we play Swansea on Wednesday so there isn’t much time to dwell on this defeat, beyond that I got nothing.
I could go on a tirade, but I’m an Arsenal fan and all I can do is hope for better even while expecting the absolute worst.
