Now there are two ways this could go: We could lose against Man united and our season would look doomed for mediocrity, or we could win and if other results go our way we could find ourselves at the top of the table.
We all know which we’d prefer.
Now I could lament how Tuesday went and believe me I’ve gone over it in my head all week, but I realise that life goes on, football goes on and the most important result is always the next one. If we win against the Mancs we’ll all be happy and we’ll praise the team.
What we need is that the team gets together and the ones that didn’t perform on Tuesday *cough cough* Ozil *cough cough* to find their game and perform. I feel this could be a big opportunity for Ozil to shine in a big game and get the whole ‘he doesn’t perform in big game’ monkey off his back. He’s an amazing player and I feel that particular judgment is kind of harsh because Ozil’s game primarily depends on his team mates. If the team has a bad game, odds are Ozil will have a bad game as that would mean he won’t get the ball enough and the chances he does manage to fashion will be wasted.
We’re playing at home where we haven’t been the best. Last season we were the better but wasted so many chances and ended up losing. On the bright side, Alexis and Walcott are scoring and seem to have struck up an interesting understanding of each other. Game by game it will only get better and Walcott is beginning to look more and more like a central forward. He seems to know his strengths and now seems to know to maximize his assets in that position.
We certainly have what it takes to beat Manchester United, only question is will we do it? Our league form is getting better, our attacking play seems to be working well, the only worry is at the back and the manager and Stevie really have to sort that out. Even when we won so comprehensively against Leicester, we still conceded two goals, the second was annoying, but in the context of that game it was still okay, but when you add the 3 goals in midweek that now means we’ve conceded five goals in two games and that is not a good statistic in anyway.
I believe the manager will have instilled this in the players and they’d have spoken to themselves, we need a strong defensive display against Man United who are themselves in form, so that’s something to think about.
At this point all we can do is keep fingers crossed. I don’t think we have any fresh injury worries, we should have our normal team back for that game as Coquelin seems to have recovered. So we will probably find the Frenchman alongside Santi. Monreal also has to return for Gibbs and of course Cech for Ospina who…*sigh* I shouldn’t talk.
So all the best to the boys and COYG!!!
