Monday Night football isn’t my favorite.
It means I have to leave work early to catch the game and God knows what i’ll meet on my table this morning
So Arsenal play Liverpool tonight and even so early on in the season it feels like a must win game. Of all our ‘big name’ rivals we’ve had the most luck with Liverpool. We lost our first game and won against Crystal Palace, they have two out of two. The two were 1-0 wins and one might be tempted to say they are still a bit shaky and not up to full speed yet. Then again the same can be said about us.
I remember pretty well that in Suarez’s final season at Anfield were they finished 2nd and drubbed us 5-1, they also started the season in similar fashion. 1-0 wins in their first 3 games and then a couple of months later they were absolutely flying. Now this is not to say that that will be the case tonight, but the reality is that 1-0 wins are still 3 points and they do build confidence.
I will definitely take a 1-0 win without reservations. It’s also necessary to remember that they have not conceded in their last 2 games, meanwhile we’ve shipped in 3 goals already. We need to tighten up if we are going to get a result today.
I have noticed that while last season we barely conceded from shots outside the box, this season we’ve conceded twice that way already and when you consider that Liverpool have a player like Coutinho who’s pretty good at stuff like that, then it gives you cause for worry.
In terms of team news, I think we might see the same team that played Crystal Palace. Though to my mind I think this is a game where Walcott can shine as a central Striker and with Alexis on his left able to interchange with, it could give slowpokes Skrtel and Lovren something to think about.
Beyond that though, I don’t really see any changes and I don’t expect any. Many will say they want the Ox in place of Ramsey and I see their point, but I also see Ramsey’s usefulness, it does seem as if people are beginning to turn on Ramsey again, I could be wrong, but it is the vibe i’m getting. I understand that Ramsey on the right may not be ideal, but it may be ideal for our system, I guess at the end of the day time will tell and we’ll see if it is indeed a good idea to have Ramsey there. We all know that Arsene hardly plays with two speedy wingers and one could argue that that’s what we’re seeing again. A speedster on the left and a more measured playmaker (or engine) on the right.
There’s also the feeling that Arsene is really invested in Ramsey’s development and will try to squeeze him into the team no matter what. This is coming at the expense of the Ox. I will say though that patience is key, we’re 2 games in the season, if the Ox makes himself undroppable, then that’s exactly what he’s going to be, he just needs to focus on staying fit and playing his game.
It’ll be nice if Cech can keep his first clean sheet of the season. We live in a ‘Now’ generation and you feel that if he isn’t excellent in this game he’s going to be slayed on the altar of twitter and there’ll be calls for Ospina to be recalled. Maybe there’s some merit in that but we’ll wait and see.
Ah well, here’s hoping for 3 points and something to celebrate tonight.
