So, Arsenal have signed a defensive midfielder
Yes!
Yes!
Yesssss!
We finally have what we’ve been waiting for
The great DM whos a beast on the pitch and also saves starving children in Africa all in a day’s work…
*reads news*
Wait, he’s 17?
Only made 6 senior team appearances?
Err…
Oh dear…
Okay, so obviously I knew all that, so should we be excited by Arsene’s new signing?
Truth is, I honestly do not know.
i tried to do a little research on him and this is what i found…
I kid! I kid!!
I found the usual stuff of his age and what not. I also did a YouTube research on him, now we all know this amounts to less than nothing as they’ll only show the good stuff, but a YouTube compilation that lasts less than 3 minutes also tells its own story
It shows his inexperience and rawness. Now like I said earlier, I really don’t know what to feel about this. On the one hand it’s a great move; he’s 6’2 and looks like no pushover, he’s versatile as he can play both DM and CB, he’s young and could turn out to be world class.
On the other hand, he’s raw and inexperienced, he can’t really be chucked into the first team straight away (it’s one thing to be put in the first team squad, quite another to be in the first team) and he’s young and could turn out to be…not world class.
Now for the most part I trust Arsene’s judgment of young players and when he sees something in someone they usually come through. I can see you all rolling your eyes and mentioning Yaya Sanogo, but i feel we should wait a bit on that before passing final judgment him.
Now I know he’s just 17 and the likes of Fabregas, Messi and more recently Pogba have started their careers relatively early and are doing quite well, this is not to say Bielik is Messi or Fabregas but…, you know…
I guess at the end of the day only time will tell, one thing’s for sure though; we aren’t getting another DM, at least not in this window, so we’re going to have Coquelin do a job in defensive midfield till at least the end of the season at which point he’ll either sign a new deal or find a whole bunch of clubs falling over themselves to sign him then we’ll see.
Arsene has said he’s throwing him into the deep end and while the youngster doesn’t think he’s ready yet, the manager certainly thinks he’s ready and we can only hope this turns out to be a great move. If he can bring some aggressiveness and technicality into that midfield it won’t be a bad move at all
So fingers crossed, we wish him all the best and let’s hope this is a signing we celebrate rather than rue.
