So welcome to the weekend and Rocktoberfest is upon us over here in Nigeria, so as a self respecting rock fan i’m ABSOLUTELY STOKED!!!
But you don’t care about that
We got Petr Cech off the Chavs for 11 million at the tender age of 33. Now this is a lot of money to shell out for a 33 year old goalkeeper. If we look at the transfers of Ozil and Sanchez, I feel there’s no difference in price tag in relation to age and all, so we essentially paid £41m or something like that in 33 year old money.
When he was bought a lot of people were excited…some…not so much. There were arguments that he wouldn’t bring much more to the team than Szczesny or Ospina and his first two games strengthened that belief in some, but right now, no one can argue just what Petr Cech is bringing to the team. He has been imperial in all the games since and has been amazing.
According to Squawka’s database:
As the graphic shows, he has 5 clean sheets in nine games, that’s more than 50% of our games. If you look at those clean sheets now you’ll see that two of them came against Liverpool and Manchester United. In the Champions league, the only game he’s played in so far has been against Bayern Munich and he kept a clean sheet and that should say something.
In that game he made six saves (according to whoscored, com) and this was against elite players like Thiago and Lewandowski. John Terry (oh lord help me) was right when he said Petr Cech could win us 12 to 15 points per season. Many have doubted that, but he’s done that again. He singlehandedly won us a point against Liverpool, kept us safe against Manchester united and arguably won us the game against Bayern Munich.
I just feel his contribution may be overlooked in the wake of no outfield being bought. Will it be enough to win us a trophy? That remains to be seen but he’s making it look possible right about now.
What he brings is so much more than his saves, he’s also a calming influence on the rest of the defence, anyone will perform better when they know they have a Petr Cech behind them as opposed to an Ospina (and this is not to say that Ospina is bad or anything, but come on!)
So Thank you Petr Cech and may it continue.
Beyond that, we have news that Aaron Ramsey may be out till the end of November. Arsene says:
“He had a scan today but he’s out. I believe he will be out until after the next international break. With the [last] international break, the fact that he played against Andorra certainly cost Bale and him as well.”
