Hey guys! It’s another midweek and we find ourselves at the beginning of an interlull. I don’t know how to feel about this interlull, on the one hand i’m absolutely fine with it seeing as we haven’t been great recently and we can go into the interlull on a high seeing as we won our last game. On the other hand, i’m scared for injuries and such.
At the end of the day though, I think i’m happy with this interlull though, it’s a chance to reflect, a chance for players to recuperate. We have hopes that Ramsey and Cech could be back after the interlull, it remains to be seen though.
It also allows us to think about the manger, who said earlier in the week
“What hurts me is that at the important moment of the season we played in a sceptical environment,”
“I think after the Tottenham game where we played a very good game with 10 men against 11 and came back to 2-2, I couldn’t understand why – at the moment when you need everyone behind the team – we had to hit that storm.
“From the media, OK. From our fans? It is a bit more difficult to take.”
He did, however, acknowledge his and the players part in helping to turn that around.
“I never complain about critics, especially when they are turned against me,” he continued. “But we have to get the fans behind us with our attitude, and make sure that they stand behind the team until the end of the season.”
Are the fans wrong? I don’t think so. We’ve seen this movie too many times. I do remember a lot of times when we’ve been against the manager and a run of wins or an FA cup win makes us forgive and move on, it does feel different this season doesn’t it? It feels like there’s no redemption whatever he does.
So what can Arsene do to gain back the trust of the Arsenal fanbase?
I don’t know. Does he win the league? Will that be enough? I mean, let’s say (and believe me I know that the odds are in the 1% range) we were able to witness a collapse of both Leicester and Tottenham and we somehow inexplicably win the league. We’ll be happy no? But will it be enough to trust the manager again? Will he deserve our trust again.
I can only answer for myself. He deserves our respect. He’s been here too long and done too much for us to not respect his achievements, but respect doesn’t equate to trust does it? Nah.
Him winning the league will be inexplicable, but will it change that we still aren’t able to consistently perform against the big teams? Will it change that we have gaping deficiencies in our team that haven’t been fixed? I don’t think so. On the other hand will the change be worth it? Say we let go of him who do we bring in? We could very well regress and I think we should be prepared for that. We should be prepared for a Manchester United, a frustrating period that will have us missing Wenger like crazy.
Sometimes I don’t know. We will likely have Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Kloop, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte as rivals next season and that’s a scary proposition with a new manager that’s unlikely to have their pedigree.
The point of this post is that it doesn’t have a point, I don’t know what’s best, I don’t know what will happen. I do know i’d always support the team, because I love them. And for now, that has to be enough.
