Hey everyone and welcome to the weekend. It’s been an interesting week in terms of Arsenal with a heart warming win against Hull City and the club announcing £26 prices for away fans which is pretty cool. So what we have to do next is host Watford and hopefully win.
At the end of the Tottenham game, while the overwhelming feeling wasn’t joy, but there was a tiny spark there, a hope that maybe the team was slowly finding its feet. We can bemoan the fact that such a thing is coming so late, but at the end of the day it is better late than never.
According to Theo Walcott, it seems there was a team meeting before the game against Hull. A round table discussion by the barons of the club if you will. He said
“We are not going to lie – we know as a unit it has been tough and we all had a good chat among us behind closed doors, without even any of coaches or the manager knowing about anything. It is important that as a team we have got it in us.
“We just have to produce it more often. You had a sense of the Tottenham game especially, when you go down to 10 men in a big game like that, the belief and the character was there. The never-give-up spirit was there as well. In the derby matches, they could be the matches that turn your season and we may have turned the corner.
“We have quite a lot of experienced players in the dressing room. It came from Petr, Mikel, Per and Tomas. We have four good old heads there. I’d like to keep what was said among ourselves but it was very important. We have had a reaction from it.
“He [the manager] probably knows about it anyway – he’s got ears everywhere at the club. The manager respects the players’ privacy and what’s happening personally among us all. It was a meeting to express how everyone was feeling basically and it worked.”
Let’s hope the team meeting sparks something in the players and perhaps we can hope for a late surge, it may be all for nothing, it may end up being too little too late, but it’d be better than where we are now (only one win in six games)
Watford are not an easy team, but we certainly have the personnel to win against them. With the team bogged down by injuries we can look forward to starts for Elneny (A player i’m really digging right now) and Alex Iwobi (who’s Nigerian so yay). Our cup form may just do wonders for our league campaign, every win will add to the confidence of the team. It also helped that Giroud and Walcott scored along with Alexis on Saturday, just maybe they will really begin to find their range now.
Fingers crossed for the game and for the rest of the campaign , it’d definitely be fun to see–or not.
Till later.
