Very quickly.
Good morning. We have woken up to the news that Arsene Wenger has coyly spoken about our transfer targets – Thomas Lemar and Kylan Mbappe- and our want-away forward – Alexis Santiago Sanchez.
When asked by FootballLondon’s Charles Watts about the winger, he said:
“That’s all speculation at the moment, there is nothing really concrete about any signing,”…
“He’s a player that we have looked at, but the rest is only speculation.”
About further transfers, Wenger said:
“I am open to get some more signings, but it is not easy to find the players who can strengthen our squad because we have top-quality players”.
“There are two ways to improve always: analyse what we did well last season and what we did not so well and improve that, and then you can bring new players in.
“But at the moment, because we are in pre-season, it is very important for us to analyse well what happened last season and where we can improve.
“We have top quality in our squad, and at the moment I focus on that.”
The boss however openly admitted interest in Mbappe but said the lad had his pick of clubs at the moment:
“He’s a player who just when he gets up in the morning can choose where he wants to go, there’s not many players who have that kind of luck because he’s 18 years of age and has the whole of Europe rolling out a red carpet for him.”
When asked specifically about our interest in the wonder kid, he coyly stated:
“I believe nobody can say they are not interested in a player of that calibre because he has such immense quality at 18 years of age.”
On Alexis Sanchez, Wenger flatly denied knowledge of the player wanting to ‘want away’ or as normal people call it: leave.
We know that’s a lie.
C’mon, you know it too.
Wenger instead had this to say:
The easiest way to manage the players in the final year of their contracts is it’s in his interest to do as well as he can,” (sounds like a threat here to Sanchez to buck up and play irrespective)
“Nobody knows today if Sanchez will be in the final year of his contract next season because he can as well extend his contract with us at the start of the season or during the season. (This sounds like part begging, part ‘please consider’)
“It’s not necessarily the last year of his contract at Arsenal Football Club.” (This sounds like- ‘Cry all you want Sanchez, you’re still under contract, muahahaha!’)
Here are my thoughts:
- Arsenal is probably in for Thomas Lemar but talks are still ongoing and the boss doesn’t want to mess things up.
- Kylan Mbappe was very much on our radar but we can’t compete with big money clubs like Real Madrid who are probably throwing stupid money at Monaco.
- Alexis Sanchez wants to leave but Wenger is doing him the ‘arm-twist’.
Nothing was said about Virgil van Dijk.
Hopefully more news later on.
You can take on the Polls below, a little fun before your boss at work comes barging through the door.
