Revenge is dish best served….
Spicy?
Crunchy?
With three spoonfuls of leather goodness?
I dunno how it goes but it was sweet, sweet revenge for arsenal yesterday as Arsenal ran out comfortable 3 goal winners against a stoke side that i found it hard to believe had won us 3-2 in the reverse fixture a couple of weeks ago
On the day we had been outplayed, outclassed, outthought and any other kind of out you can think of
It has been a strange kind of season for us, with some really really good performances (Newcastle, Galatasaray, Dortmund) and some really, really poor ones (Anderlecht. Southampton, stoke) and sometimes you wondered what sort of Arsenal will show up
Well it was with great relief that i realized that it was killer Arsenal that showed up against stoke this time
I want to enthuse over the performance of basically every single player and this was a game we could easily have won by a larger margin but for the performance of Begovic in goal (bar the 3rd of course ) and our own wastefulness (i’m looking at you Walcott and Ozil)
We went into the game on the back of that terrible performance against Southampton and even though arsenal have not been terrible in a while (Between the West Brom win and the Fa Cup win against Hull we’d lost just 2 out of 10 games) there’s always that fear that we weren’t playing well and we could collapse at anytime, but there was nothing of the sort today
We closed down well, we defended well, we attacked well, it was a beauty to watch.
The team sheet was interesting…Ospina started in place of Szczesney and this raised some eyebrows and some cheers from some quarters, i for one believes Szczesney is our best keeper, but i like the look he had on the bench, it shows that the competition will be beneficial to the club
It was nice to have our best central defensive pairing together…well they were together for southmapton but whatever. Coquelin continued in defensive midfield and Pretty boy returned into the lineup after his daft sending off against QPR.
We started really well and even after Koscielny put us ahead we could have scored at least two to three more chances
We had Ozil, Walcott, Ramsey and Flamini on the bench and it was interesting to see that even with these players on the bench you didn’t feel like anyone on the pitch merited being dropped.
You look at Ozil, Walcott and Ramsey and you look at the team that played today and i must say i’m hard pressed to see who drops for who.
For instance, on current form, Santi is virtually undroppable. The way Rosicky is playing it would be bordering on mean to drop him. even though i have some issues with Oxlade Chamberlain’s end product and final ball you can’t say he doesn’t belong in the team
And how about Coquelin? He even avoided a card today (something Flamini couldn’t pull off even if the fate of the world depended on it) He was really, really good today. He’s been good ever since he came into the team
Although i won’t go as far as saying we don’t need a defensive midfielder, cos we do, i will say that he is the best defensive midfielder we have on the team at the moment
I’m truly excited about the team with the players coming back at the right time and with Ospina doing well in goal, Arsene truly has a selection headache in the upcoming games and no i’m not suddenly saying we’re the greatest ever and will win everyone, but this was hugely encouraging
We play City next and this is just the kind of performance you want before taking on such a difficult task, so hopefully we can build some momentum from here
till later
p.s Arnautovic is a right old Olori buruku (loosely translated as cunt) for his challenge on Debuchy. I hope it’s not too long before he’s back
pss Bellerin was pretty good today, he could keep the place no?
psss I didn’t mention Alexis…but what would i have said really?
