So i haven’t written anything since the win against Hull city. It was a routine 3-1 win and God knows it could have been more. It was a lovely game to watch. I was as sick as a dog and unable to move properly but i still made my way to a viewing center and watched the game and even as my head pounded and my temperature spiked and i tasted bile i experienced an euphoria of sorts as i watched the love of my life, Arsenal, run circles round a hapless Hull.
I was scared before the start of the game because Hull had beaten Liverpool (in hindsight, a team of lepers with hands for feet would still have beaten Liverpool) and there’s the whole relegation stuff and how those sorts of teams are really scary to face. We then race into a 3 goal lead and i was like “Why did i even bother?” Then Hull scored (albeit through a foul much like their first in the reverse fixture) and i got a small feeling of the Anderletch and i was jittery for a while, but then we just… we just had some fun, or at least that’s what it looked like.
And so it was reported yesterday that Monday night’s exploits took our season tally past the 100 mark and i got excited. It was reported like this was a rare thing and i was already formulating theories in my head about how awesome this was and so on, but by doing a little research i found out that this isn’t something particularly new:
2010/2011- 119
2011/2012- 96
2012/2013- 105
2013/2014- 99
2014/2015- 101???
All stats from statto.com
So basically in the last 5 seasons (this one inclusive) we’ve been over the 100 mark thrice. This speaks to how we are as an attacking team. It seems a lot of fun now mostly because of how well we play offensively. So while the news that we are over a hundred goals is all fine and dandy i think the reporting of it was a little over the top…or maybe i just read it wrong.
But beyond that we’ve kept the run going, we’re now undefeated in 10 games and believe me that’s a lot of games to go without losing (though it’s not 49 or anything) we’ll need to keep the run going. We’re level on points with Man city who are ahead on goal difference (we could have made up for it in the Hull game) and they’ve been quietly racking up points and will probably be our biggest threat to second place.
We play Swansea Monday night and that means another weekend devoid of Arsenal action (which sucks) but if we win it’s all good, and then it’s Old Trafford for THAT game. I’d totally love it if we win and i am confident enough to think we can actually do it. But till then let’s just keep our fingers crossed and hope for good news on the injury front.
