It was a time of unleashing the hidden potentials, as Arsenal ran away 4-0 winners against a Singapore select-XI with a relatively weak side.
All the senior men just sat there, scared for themselves as Wenger gave the young guns a chance to show their stuff and boy did they take that chance.
And I have to say Chuba Akpom really did take his chance maybe just a little more than the others as he bagged a hattrick. Giroud was sure pissing in his pants from the way Akpom played today and he might me in for some competitions, that’s if Wenger doesn’t sign another striker tho.
Arsenal started with Martinez in goal, leaving new boy or should I say man, Petr Cech to observe and wait a little longer for his first game in an Arsenal shirt.
Paulista, Per, Monreal, Debuchy made up the back four. Flamini, Coquelin Wilshere occupied the midfield and Ox, Iwobi and Chuba Akpom caused trouble up front.
I have to say I was really impressed with Iwobi’s game today, his deft touches, composure, accurate passes, his agility, everything he did today sure did impress me. Hoping he gets more game time during the course of the season.
Thanks to the way the Singapore XI was set up, our backline didn’t really have much work to do and they majorly just stayed and supported the attack.
Akpom got the first goal on 30 mins after shooting a loose ball from a proposed dribble by Wilshere. Iwobi crossed the ball, Akpom dummied, Wilshere got the ball and tried to dribble but was disposed and guess who was there to slot it home, Chuba Akpom.
Wilshere later got himself on the score sheet albeit from the penalty spot after Debuchy was brought down by Kamara to make it 2-0.
The second half saw some players come in. Szczesny for Martinez, Chris Willock, Gedion Zelalem and Dan Crowley for Ox, Flamini and Wilshere.
Those boys relished this chance and gave a good account of themselves, Chris Willock impressing me the most among the trio.
We had to add more goals and Akpom was there to do so again. Getting his 2nd of the game and Arsenal’s 3rd in the process, from the penalty spot also.
Hector Bellerin and Jon Toral would come on later to join their fellow youngsters on the pitch.
And in the end it was Bellerin’s inch perfect cross that created the 4th goal. Akpom was in position and headed the ball well. 4-0 it was, game over.
