It was a cold evening at my house, don’t know about London where the game between Arsenal and Hull City took place though.
We had been pitted against Hull in what was a repeat of the last year’s FA Cup final.
Unlike what most people had predicted, it wasn’t much of a repeat of that final in the way the game went down. We came out comfortable winners at the time the ref sounded the final whistle.
2-0 the final score. Goals from our captain on the day, Per Mertesacker ( his first goal of the season) and Alexis Sanchez with little or no threat from Hull city. David Ospina who was given a chance to show his worth in the team had an easy game as Hull city provided little or no threat at all.
He was literally just having fun throughout the game with his green gloves.
One thing that caught my eye though was the fact that we scored from a corner. We actually improved in our set pieces as shown today and it’s either Hull are really poor at set pieces or we got better.
The Per goal looked like a training routine. Sanchez with the corner and there was Per towering above everyone and boom! we were up 1-0
We pressed on. Missing chance after chance, Sanchez, Walcott, Campbell…
Santi and Rosicky sure did boss the midfield as was expected of them. The occasional swapping of positions among the front three also caused some problem for the Hull back line.
By half time, we could have been 3-0 but thanks to Harper and some, err… let me just call it poor finishing. Okay, horrendous finishing.
Second half came and we kind-a relaxed. Just allowing Hull bring the game to us but they still could’nt do anything with it. Huddlestone was on ghost-mode throughout the game save for the shot he had at the end.
We all clamoured for a Sanchez rest before the game. Reports out of the Emirates said Wenger wanted to rest him but he said he wanted to play and we got to see why later on.
We needed a second goal and who better to get it than Sanchez. Some quality play from Santi Cazorla who had been on top of his game throughout, nice turn from Sanchez and it was 2-0.
All we needed to go to the next round.
Chamberlain got a knock on his knee towards the end and I hope he is fine.
Good game from Coquelin today by the way, but I think he needs to stop training with Flamini. I could see some traits there, those silly tackles but he still had a good game.
Walcott had a good game also but seeing as he made just his first start in a year still needed some brushing and should be back to full fitness in no time.
Well, on to the next one.
The draws on Monday, hope we get a weak opposition.
