Only a few days ago, we learnt from SKY Sports that David Luiz spoke about leaving Arsenal. SKY Sports referenced an interview the experienced centre-back had with Spor TV based in Brazil. The story seems to have changed albeit slightly.
Kia Joorabchian, one of the super agents in football, is also Luiz’s agent. Joorabchian mentions that the veteran defender wants to stay at Arsenal and, the ball is in Arsenal’s court.

Luiz’s agent – Joorabchian – says there’s a ‘very high chance’ that the defender would remain at Arsenal. He maintains this position even though Arsenal have failed to exercise the extension clause in Luiz’s contract.
“He has an extremely good relationship with both the coach and the sporting director. He has good relationships all throughout the club, right up to the owner. He respects everybody.
“Arsenal had an option, which expired. We also had a pandemic [coronavirus]. So the option expired in the middle of the pandemic. We are all very aware of that situation and we are all trying, very slowly, to get back to this ‘new normal’. – Sky Sport
We’re not sure who to believe anymore. One the one hand, Luiz has dropped hints about loving Benfica and wanting to end his career there. Now, Joorabchian says Luiz likes it at Arsenal and wants to stay. It’s becoming a little confusing.
In other news, Arsenal might be off the hunt for a striker in Edouard. The Celtic striker seemed to be top of Arsenal’s transfer list especially with Aubameyang’s contract in limbo. Sky Sports mentions that the current coronavirus crisis and the financial constraints it has caused have seen Arsenal soft-pedal on many of their transfer targets.
