Today, we meet Coventry City FC.
The FA Cup gives us a chance to win the double this season. I know what you’re thinking…The Double? Right?
I’m staying positive and hopeful about wining the league and who’s not to say we can’t add another trophy via the FA Cup? However, one thing I hope we’ve learned as a team is not taking any team whether League 1 or Sunday league for granted.
Remember Bradford and Blackburn? I don’t want to remember that either but, the saying goes – ‘Once beaten…’ – we’ve been beaten twice.
Who Should Play Coventry

The players who haven’t had proper run outs should be given a chance. You can see the placements I made from my limited football manager skills.
Nik B, Podolski, The Ox, Gibbs and Zelalem should be given a run out by the boss, no use having all that talent on the bench growing mould. Our key players should be given rest with only Per and Flamini ensuring we have compact defensive structure and movement.
Some Gunners say Podolski doesn’t track back with the rest of the team, I haven’t watched him closely as I probably was too excited to see him threaten opponent defences as soon as he came on. Let’s see how he does defensively IF he gets to start.
Star Players for Arsenal
Going by the picks, I’d place my money on Podolski and Gnabry, both are quicker than Bendtner although the latter and Podolski are better finishers than Gnabry.
We are bound to see some sublime skills from Zelalem as he’s had enough time to understudy his hero Ozil. Midfield enforcement from Flamini and quick nimble forward runs from Oxlade me thinks.
What I can’t bet my money on however, is the partnership of Oxlade and Flamini as well as the partnership of Per and Vermaelen, we’d have to see.
Star Players for Coventry
I hear Coventry likes to play through the middle of the park (hack some dudes down Flamini! 😉 )and that they’ve been outstanding even with 10 points deducted from them at the start of the season.
Their key players remain:
- Leon Clarke (FW) scored 15 goals and has 5 assists in 22 appearances (injured*phew*; get well soon buddy.)
- Callum Wilson (FW) scored 14 goals and has 3 assists in 23 appearances
- Frank Moussa (FW) scored 11 goals and 3 assists
- Carl Baker (MF) scored 5 goals and has 6 assists and Lee Burge (GK)
That’s not a bad tally by any standard so, we’ll have to be wary and not get complacent like we do in the first half of our games.
So, sit tight people and let’s hope we grind these guys to dust! C’mon Gunners!
