So, Monaco it is!
Yes, you heard me right; we are playing Monaco in the Champions League, Not Real Madrid, not Barcelona, not Bayern Munich…Monaco!
And yes, this is a Monaco without Falcao and James and Riviere. I know you all know about the draw but i just felt the need to help you come to terms with the fact that it is not a dream, joke, illusion, jiujitsu or any other thing, we are in fact playing Monaco in the champions league second round.
Now that is just ace i tell you. This is not to say that we couldn’t get utterly thwacked by them, this is just saying that we for the first time in a long, long time go into a second round Champions League fixture not as underdogs. Now i enjoyed the underdog role, there was less pressure and all that, but there was always a sinking feeling of hopelessness. As at yesterday i was beyond sure that we were getting Madrid and i could already see all the interviews and the tweets and all that.
Bale: “I’m relishing facing Arsenal, i’d like to maul them with my new team for all the times they called me monkey boy”
Ronaldo: “I’m relishing facing Arsenal, i’d like to maul them with my team for all the times they called me ‘ororo’ (vegetable oil)”
Benzema: “I’m relishing facing Arsenal, i’d like to maul them with my team…i don’t really have a reason, but Ronaldo and Bale spoke, i just wanted to feel among”
So yes, i was pretty sure of all that and then we get Monaco, the second kindest draw in the entire thing and ironically Dortmund get Juve…that’s crazy no?
Now i would normally talk about who’s available and who’s not and the players we have and the players they have, but the game’s not till February, by that time we could pretty much be using our under 19 team after all the first team have gotten injured and then all the under 21s have gotten injured and we’ll be stuck using under 19 players. Our squad will look like this:
Huddart-Gk
Moore-Df
Pleguezuelo-Df
Bola-Df
Stefan O’connor-Df
Eyoma-Mf
Jebb-Mf
Crowley-Mf
Diaby-Mf
Iwobi-Fw
Mavididi-Fw
Yes people, Diaby will ironically be the only fit senior player available
On a more serious note, let’s hope to God that we have a bunch of returning players by then that will make our team look competitive. But with that sorted we can focus fully on domestic affairs and face Arsene’s reunion with Monaco later.
We need to go on a winning streak, as Man United have shown (Ugh!) It’s never to late to get into the title race game, 6 straight wins and they suddenly look like contenders, now i’m pretty sure the chavs will win the Premier league (again, Ugh!) but if we put a winning run together we can at least throw our names into the hat. Now it’s going to take some ridiculous form and frankly something insanely special to pull that off, but it isn’t impossible
It’d be fun to go to Monaco and watch the game no? Spruce abeg come and buy ticket for boys na
Till Later
