Algerian international Ismael Benncer, 19, has left Arsenal to join Italian side Empoli.

The midfielder spent two years with Arsene Wenger’s side but made just one first-team appearance as a substitute in last season’s 3-0 League cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Seems Ismael did not make an impression on the boss or he was played out of position…

Many Arsenal fans think we should be strengthening the midfield; I, however, think we’ve leaked more goals than is comfortable for a club of our stature. Wenger has developed a knack for playing players out of position these days; you can’t expect a stellar performance when you do that. Maybe the fact’s lost on him.
