Arsenal’s search for a replacement for Garbon national Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is pointing to Odsonne Edouard as a possible choice. The 22-year-old Frenchman’s worth has been on the rise lately now rated at around £35m, up from a then club-record £9m. when he was traded into Paris Saint-Germain.
The star aged 22 has been quite performant in matches, shooting 62 goals into the net in 126 appearances in Scotland. Celtic is having a hard time fighting off competition from some of Europe’s biggest clubs for the striker’s signature. Celtic are interested in giving Edouard a new deal but they’re realistic about their prospects of keeping him and cashing in on their prized asset could offset some of the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic.
Neil Lennon’s side value the forward at £35m and Le10 Sport claim Arsenal are monitoring Edouard’s situation with a view to making a bid this summer.
Arteta is particularly keen on a forward because the Gunners fear that they will lose Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer. The Gabon international has one year to run on his deal at the Emirates and he’s attracted attention from Barcelona.
Arsenal is still hopeful he can be convinced to stay but negotiations over a new deal have subsided and the Gunners will listen to bids of around £50m, particularly if they miss out on Champions League qualification. Arteta’s preference remains to keep Aubameyang, particularly as he’s club captain.
Should the Spaniard be forced into selling to buy, he’d rather raise funds through the sale of Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman has found playing time hard to come by under Arteta and is valued at around £35m.
