Hey folks! Happy midweek to you all. It’s nice to see Wednesday arrive fairly quickly. So there was champions league football yesterday and i couldn’t get excited cos there were no English teams in it. But then i watched Bayern put Porto to the sword and i was like, Whoa! Why couldn’t we do that to Monaco
Well to be fair, Bayern didn’t lose 3-1 at home so really they just needed 2 goals and they had their home support…so…you know. Anyway, that’s no matter, we’re on an incredible run of form. We’ve been winning games left, right and center. We’ve also been winning them in style, ugly, gritty etc.
So that bodes well for us. We’re in the FA cup final and in a position to finish at our highest point since 04-05. That’s been a long, long time now. But before that we have the small matter of beating Chelsea. The blimp parkers come to the Emirates on Sunday to park their blimp and frustrate us.
In seasons past i would have been extremely pessimistic about this fixture, but i can’t help feeling just a little optimistic this time, maybe, just maybe we could do something special and make the special blimp parker feel terrible. I’d enjoy that greatly. Chelsea are winning the league, but at least we can delay it and that in itself will hold a measure of comfort for me, not much, but some.
So we really should look at our starting lineup for that game. Since the Liverpool game, Arsene has generally stuck with the same starting 11 and that has worked generally. But this is Chelsea so we have to ask the question; do we stick with the winning team or do we alter things to take on Chelsea?
Now, in the big games we’ve won since the beginning of the year (Man City, Man United, Liverpool) we’ve always tweaked things a bit; With Man City it was Santi sitting deeper than usual and playing as a box to box of sorts, against United we used Welbeck to great effect and we had Coquelin deal with Fellaini, with Liverpool it was Ramsey on the right (which if i remember was the same position he played last season in our 2-0 win over them). So do we tweak against Chelsea? The above examples will suggest so
But the one that is of most interest is in the RB slot. Who gets the nod, Bellerin or Debuchy? The Spaniard has been in amazing form since his disappointing debut against Dortmund and has really grown into quite the player. Enough that i can almost trust him against most players…almost
The frenchman is experienced and reliable…not as speedy or attack minded but solid in a Sagnaesque kind of way and therefore is also a person in contention. When you factor the fact that whoever is playing RB is up against the POTY elect, then you really have to wonder. If it’s in terms of speed, Bellerin would be the clear winner. In one on one battles, you’d feel Debuchy would be the better pick
Arsene started Debuchy against Reading and that gave the impression that even if he’s not getting the nod, he’s definitely in contention. Now there’s also a theory that a Debuchy and Moreal Full back combo isn’t very attacking as they are players who are more adept at the art of defending than attacking. And vice versa with Gibbs and Bellerin and therefore it should be one from each…i dunno much about this, but i feel we have to be at our very best against Chelsea from a defensive point of view and we can’t afford to be cavalier in anyway.
So all i’ve been trying to say since is that i have no clue who would work better. You can give your comments and views on the comments section…here’s hoping for a win
