It takes a really healthy person to be an Arsenal fan
So there we were, leading Crystal Palace by two goals to one and there was a corner. It was swung in, there was some commotion in the box and somehow the ball ended up over the bar, I remember clutching my chest at this point and just shaking my head.
Danny Glover’s quote from lethal Weapon came to me: “I’m too old for this sh*t”
I’m not that old
I’m not even 30
So, the team that was selected was terribly familiar, it was the team that did so well in the second half of the season and maybe that’s why we got the result. I felt Giroud scored a pretty good goal and we somehow won the game.
We had a lot of chances and Alexis on his first full game back was culpable for a lot of the chances we missed. It shows that he is not quite at a 100% yet, but believe me, the 90% I saw, made me very happy. In my opinion it was his sheer force of will that got us the second goal. It was similar to his goal against Burnley last season, where he leaped onto a ball he had no business getting to and just headed it home. It was the same situation here only that this time it went off Delaney into the net. I have confidence that once he’s fully, fully fit, he’ll be even scarier than last season.
I felt Ozil was sublime, he really did make up for some of his cock ups last week and was our chief outlet, he created 3 scoring chances that I can remember or count and was hardworking (contrary to popular belief)
Giroud was….I dunno. He took his goal pretty well, but after that was a bit iffy…he wasn’t bad, not by any means, he just wasn’t superb in my opinion either. I credit his for a great, great goal and some of his link up play wasn’t shabby at all. Sigh, early days eh?
I was glad to have Bellerin back and I think it is clear at this point that the right back position is his to lose at the moment as he looks older than he is, playing with a maturity that belies his years. He is young though and will make mistakes, but for now I think he is our best right back.
Speaking of the defense, they were a little shaky for me. They dealt well with the Crystal palace attacks most of the time, but they scared me more than I wish to admit. I guess this is something they can iron out in training and do better next time.
The Cazorla/Coquelin axis has once and for all proved that it is the best in the team at the moment. I like Ramsey, I really do, but Cazcoq (?) is kinda the in thing now. They just work so well together and it was impressive watching them (even though Coquelin was flirting with a red card). Coquelin’s passing is underrated, he spread the ball beautifully and he seems to be settling in nicely.
We take on Liverpool next and this is the time we can begin to build a little momentum, our game against them is the last one before a blasted interlull and it would be good to go into one of those in good spirits. Here’s hoping for a win then.
For now thoughm I have every intention of enjoying these 3 sweet, precious points.
