Okay so i find myself still half asleep writing this…I went partying with rockers last night so forgive me if my letters slur or something.
We drew against Liverpool yesterday. It was light snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. It was one of those games in which we didn’t play well by any stretch of the imagination but we somehow found ourselves in the lead with goals from Debuchy and Giroud. What more? Borini got red carded.
This should have been a victory no?
We then somehow let ourselves be pegged back by a Liverpool goal at the death. Now while i won’t say Liverpool are sh*t (they are) they certainly haven’t been the greatest team ever, yet somehow we couldn’t beat them. Every member of the team was having an off day save Szczesny with whom i was quite impressed. He did his bit but his teammates let him down.
A win would have done so much for us going into a hellish set of fixtures and i find it hard to be optimistic when you consider that we’re going into a run of games that while might not be against the scariest opposition ever is so tightly packed, that i fear for the tired looking players that were on the pitch yesterday.
When Giroud scored to put us in front, i was so chuffed, i thought we’d have at least held on, we’ve been pretty good at that in recent seasons; backs to the wall defending that was rugged and difficult to watch, but usually effective. That was nowhere to be found yesterday and it was too bad.
You wonder what the manager will have to say about it.
I’m really afraid because our midfield was not up to par, Flamini was lucky not to get a red, Chamberlain wasn’t so great and you wonder seeing as we have no reinforcements, if this midfield will be able to hold out with a brutal run of fixtures that has us playing our next 3 games in the short space of 7 days…
Can this midfield hang on?
Can the defense? because they weren’t so great either. We’ve beaten the ‘Arsene should have bought a defender’ horse to death, revived it and then beaten it to death again, so I’ll say nothing on that, but January is coming and it is a chance for us to get it right.
All in all, I’m an optimistic person…or well, at least one who’s hopeful. We need a run of wins if we hope to achieve anything this season, before Man U’s hilarious draw against Aston Villa, they had won 7 in a row, Man City is on a similar streak and we know all about the Chavs, so we have to pull ourselves together and make this work…We are definitely capable of that.
