The Arsenal train is moving well, chugging.
We played Southampton yesterday and i must say it was a nervy match.
Now, i have watched Arsenal play long enough to expect that in games and be adequately prepared. Now for our non Nigerian readers you must understand why it is even more difficult watching these games
In Nigeria the most common and popular way of watching football is at a communal viewing center. Here they play the game live along with any other game that is on at that moment. You know what this means right?
They were playing the Chelsea game there too.
So when you have a bunch of Chavs celebrating after every goal while you sit nervous and afraid that Arsenal would do an Arsenal with the chav fans trolling you at that time too, it makes for a very unpleasant cocktail.
Thankfully it didn’t come to that, Alexis scored and we won.
I like survival mode Arsenal, survival mode Arsenal are geniuses in grinding out results and they do it pretty well. They don’t necessarily play flowing football, but they do know how to win. The game itself was a little end to end, i liked Santi for most of the game, he seemed to run into trouble a few times, but hey, we won.
We started with the back-line that started the West Brom game and i felt they did pretty well, at least the kept a clean sheet and didn’t let themselves get turned inside out by a hardworking Southampton team.
In midfield, the team was pretty much the same and i liked some of Ramsey’s early work, but as the game went on he too started to make some inaccurate passes and when you’re in search of a goal, such misplaced passes can be very infuriating. Flamini was on the floor lying down, waiting for a player to run into his legs for most of the game but it worked and Santi was Santi, buzzing everywhere.
The frontline featured The Ox, Alexis and Welbeck and i really think Welbeck should have done better with some chances, you get the feeling he’s lacking that killer instinct of the truly great strikers at the moment, but that could still come, experience and time could bring that.
Alexis was a little dodgy for me, he got the goal and he’s still a fantastic player but he ran into trouble a couple of times (which is to be expected) and sometimes he seemed a little impatient in trying to make things happen. He’s our best player and i hope he keeps getting the goals.
The Ox was fine, but what a difference Giroud made when he came on. In his 25 minutes on the pitch i saw him force two saves from Forster and set up Welbeck who also drew a great save from the Southampton goalkeeper.
I’m happy for the win, it’s now 3 straight wins and 3 clean sheets and whichever way you look at it that’s a good thing. I think the return of Koscielny cannot be underestimated, he’s been awesome and seems to have calmed the defense down somewhat. We play Stoke next and i really hate those guys, without Pulis though they seem like a decent outfit *gags*
It’ll be great to get another win as the confidence this’ll bring the team will be immense. Fingers crossed we get more players back and don’t lose anymore, we’re due a break from the injury gods no?
Till next week
