So once again we lost to the Chavs yesterday. What more, we have a full 13 days to moan about it. I watched the game over drinks with a friend. The saddest part of the defeat was how predictable it was. It was the archetypical Arsenal vs Chelsea game; we played well enough, but they had moments of magic and we didn’t.
From where I was watching, Chelsea probably had two shots on target and both were goals (A penalty counts as a shot on target no?). We had like one or so, we didn’t do anything with it. This game was won in moments. Chelsea made use of theirs, we didn’t.
There was that lovely pass from Cazorla to Wilshere and if Wilshere’s first touch had been better it could have been 1-1. But it wasn’t and the chance was gone. If we’d scored then, who knows what could have happened?
You don’t throw away chances like that against a team like Chelsea, you just don’t, it’s a bad idea.
Ozil was frustrating.
I saw some lovely footwork from him sometimes, but no end product and that worries you because going into the game you’d think that if there was anyone who could maybe unlock the Chelsea defense, it would be Ozil, but he didn’t.
Therefore we huffed and puffed but ccouldn’tblow the house down. I couldn’t say Chelsea were better than us, they just managed their moments better and that’s where there’s a worry about this team. In the games against smaller opposition, they do all sorts, but play a big team when you can’t slack for even a second and we see this. It’s disheartening.
I had a huge argument with my friend who was saying that we do not have a 20-25 goal a season striker and I was really angry because even though I would have loved to have the fabled world class striker in the team, I don’t think our failure against Chelsea was down to that.
But be of good cheer Gooners, after the interlull (again?) we have a run of 4 games or so that we really should win and build some momentum before we face Manchester United and even after that we have another run of manageable games. I don’t think we can win the league, not with our current personnel, but I do feel we can go as far as second, I believe a lot in this current squad, we really just need to get our acts together.
We really need to deal with this problem with big teams, it’s appalling and while I’m an unabashed Wenger fan, I do feel that he is to blame for our problems against rivals, he has to be a little more pragmatic sometimes, although yesterday if I had any fault to pick from his area it would be leaving on Ozil and taking off Cazorla when it was pretty clear that the latter was having the better game. Well it’s time for me to get into the office and endure the taunts from my Chelsea colleagues and friends.
Maybe Sprucey will allow me to share from her pity champagne that was given to her in the office. What do you say Sprucey? *wink*
