Not many goals happened over the weekend but we had some slightly outstanding performances still in our team of the week…
In goal, there was the ever present prevailing presence…okay, forget I said that. Thibaut Courtois was pretty good for Chelsea in goal as he kept a clean sheet against QPR sadly for us.
In defense, there was Ivanovic Branislav (his name sounds like one of those Russian bond villains by the way. I digress.) who was solid in defense and have pretty good runs on the right going out and not allowing anything in. Lord Terry of the manor was tidy at the back and kept the QPR lads quiet.
For the first time in a long while, Chris Smalling makes an appearance after scoring against Citeh in the 4-2 victory…why don’t I feel happy reporting this? Anyways, our very own Monreal shows up this week after helping us keep a clean sheet against Burnley; he’s been rally good lately, that guy.
In midfield, there prince of divers, Ashley Young who seems to have come alive under Van Gaals management; good for him. He got an assist and a goal against Citeh. Who would have thought Joey from Friends would actually play good football when needed? In his characteristic aggressive style, he harassed and bullied his way through the midfield in QPR’s 1-0 loss against Chelsea.
Monsieur Le Coq was easily the man of the match in Arsenal’s victory against Burnley. The young man controlled much of the midfield in this fashion:
Bolasie Yannick scored a hat-trick in Crystal Palace’s 4-1 victory over Sunderland. I see Alan Pardew with a big grin on ‘is face.
In attack, Glen Murray scored his 6th goal in 6 games for Crystal Palace as they put Sunderland to the sword 4-1 while, again, sadly, Lord of the Kun (Aguero) couldn’t do anything to save Citeh after scoring twice against Manchester United.
