ARRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!
I’ve always been one of those people who staunchly believe that once a player dons the red and white, you support said player till such player stops donning the red and white.
Sadly, not everyone shares the same view, and I get that, to each his own they say, but, to wish a player ill?
It’s like a vicious cycle with Arsenal fans, a player is off form, you want the player sold, or injured…or dead (yes, some people are that diabolical). Some people did it with Rosicky, R.V little boy P and Diaby. The most recent example was with Aaron Ramsey, dude was having a hard time and everyone wanted him out, I can’t count the number of arguments I had with people, on twitter, in person and so on. They said Ramsey was shit, I for one, believed he wasn’t playing well, shouldn’t have been in the first team as often and should have been played in his preferred position.
Now, I stand by those sentiments, but I’m overjoyed that he’s the monster he is now. What’s the point of all I’ve said before now; why in the name of all things sacred are people slagging off Jack Wilshere? I’m sure a bunch of you are reading this and saying ‘not me’, but I’m sure you’ve read the papers and heard a bunch of people going on about it.
Why though?
This is the same Jack Wilshere that bossed the midfield against Barcelona in 2011, the Great England Hope they called him. Now I understand if it’s just the tabloids being utter c*nts, its a job description. I mean in their ads for a job, its probably like:
“VACANCY- News Reporter: Must be hard working, efficient and an utter c*nt”,
so, of course they’re all c*nts, but some “supporters” too?
Arsene had this to say:
Jack has been a doubt, a little bit, physically…
The problem in the modern game is that you need to be absolutely 100 per cent to express your talent. Or you don’t…
“At the moment Jack is not completely at his best physically. That’s why people start to question his performances but I think he is a fantastic footballer and he will show that. He needs consistency now” Arsenal.com
And he’s right. He was always shielding Jack even when he was in good form, and rightfully so, the dude’s 21 for Pete’s sake.
Now, what caused my very apparent irk this morning; I was watching the game in a viewing centre (equivalent to a pub) with various people. We all sit there, Arsenal fans hoping for a win and the boo boys hoping for a defeat so as to make fun of the losers. I do this every weekend, cos it’s fun, you hear diverse views (usually stupid), but generally amusing.
So, here I was watching the game, and Jack had just drawn a foul out of a Sunderland player, the guy beside me was screaming ‘release it! Release the ball!’ I turned calmly to him and just explained, “that’s his game, just leave him to it”. Then someone said something behind me that truly pissed me off. I just had to respond, and believe me, I usually don’t. I mean, come on!
These are the same people (I see them all as the same, I know, I’ve been accused of being elitist) that suggested that Emmanuel Emenike (Nigerian Fernabache striker) was better than Olivier Giroud. Now just let that sink in for a second. So I usually pay them no mind, but here’s what he said:
“That Wilshere is a waste of space, let him even have one injury sef“…
(Wilshere is a bloody waste of space, methinks he should pick up an injury)
I couldn’t believe it.
I had to turn and ask : “Chairman” (a term used in Nigeria, equivalent to ‘governor’ or ‘mate’) why would you even wish a player ill? Have you had an injury before?”
He was surprised, surely he hadn’t had one. He sheepishly explained that in that case he should be replaced. I asked him by whom (please bear in mind that this was our bench on Saturday – Fabianski, Vermaelen, Monreal, Frimpong, Ryo, Gnabry and Akpom)…
He struggled for a bit, muttering and being an idiot before saying: “Ehen! (Yes!) Let them bring Frimpong”
At this point, I wanted nothing more than to stab him in the eye with a screwdriver, but you know, jail time and all. Frimpong? Really? Don’t get me wrong, I love the guy, but he’s no Wilshere.
I’m tired of people slagging off the guys, even when Ramsey was having a hard time, he was at least hard-working which is more than we can say about Arsharvin.
Wilshere does the same, what’s more, I felt he had a terrific game yesterday. I particularly enjoyed his cross that Walcott headed wide. The stats back him up
Jack Wilshere’s stats against Sunderland (from whoscored.com)
Total Passes- 54
Key Passes- 2
Successful Dribbles- 2
Was Fouled- 3
Pass Accuracy- 87%
Not bad at all in my opinion, especially from a player not at his best yet.
Anyways, Wilshere is an immense player and I’ll love people to get off his back and support him, till he finds and surpasses the form that endeared him to us in the first place. Rant over.
Thanks if you’ve read so far.

On a lighter note, what’s with all the 3-1 scorelines? This was our 3rd in 4 games!
