So we go into our last game of the season against West Bromwich Albion in relatively low form and almost certain of 3rd place.
We’d have to lose and Man U really subject Hull to a beat down (Ichigo Grimmjow anyone?) so even though football is a crazy game no sane person would bet on that happening. So the question is; what will the manager do? I have mentioned before that i feel Alexis and Santi are due a rest and Giroud has not looked all springy and stuff either. So is this a chance for the manager to rotate before the cup final? Certainly. Will he? No idea
Also seeing as we’ve played with largely the same players in the last 3 games and have not won any, it might be pretty rad if we brought in some fresh blood. I fancy seeing a start for Theo and Welbeck and maybe even Rosicky for what could be his last premier league appearance for the Arsenal.
I think it’ll be a good idea to rotate and most importantly win the game against West Brom. They are certainly in high spirits after that hilarious defeat of Chelsea and they will go into the game high on confidence and we will go in with the handbrake on if we select the same team we’ve selected in recent weeks. In my opinion this will be because the players in the team currently feel pretty sure about their place on the team and with an eye on the final will be looking to make sure they don’t get injured. It’s a psychological thing and even if on the surface they feel they want to give their all, there’ll be a little ‘handbrakiness’ to their play.
On the other hand, if fresher players are brought in (Welbeck, Ox, Rosicky, Theo et al) they too with one eye on the final will want to give their all so that they force themselves into the manager’s thinking for the final and maybe get a run out. The logic is simplistic i know but i feel it’s also accurate, so in this case maybe rotating might be the way to go.
The final game of the season is worth it, as is the first game or the 18th game or any game for that matter, so i think we should aim to win and most importantly aim to play well as we cannot afford to not win the FA cup. If we don’t win the FA cup, the entire season will be looked at in another light and i would hate that as i feel we’ve seen some modicum of progress this season and it’ll be nice for us to continue in that trajectory and 2 trophies in 2 years has a nice ring to it no?
So the season is almost over and you have no idea how ecstatic i am that the summer is going to be shorter than usual. I know it’s a little selfish as that also means that the players are going to have a much shorter holiday but hey, what can i say?
Here’s looking towards a good win and a trophy in a week’s time. Fingers crossed.
Till then.
Update: Rosicky is staying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes! Yahoo! Yatta!
