Okay, he actually used the word ‘inept’ and it certainly means the same thing as rubbish.
I think inept is too strong a word to use Paul. Wenger isn’t a tactical genius neither is he tactically inept; his tactics need some work, period.
Tactically inept means tactically useless, incompetent, unskilled, hopeless… the list goes on. And although I do have my problems with Wenger’s tactical decisions sometimes, I refuse to agree that he is hopeless, useless and all of that.
Paul might not do a better job, and if you prod him hard enough, you’ll find he has no sensible alternative to Wenger (although I’d really love Joachim Lowe or Pep Guardiola to succeed Wenger).
Paul Merson said and I quote:
“I think they are tactically clueless, that’s an honest opinion.
“This is not the first time it’s happened, it’s happened a lot. It’s absolutely clueless. For me the manager has to get a message on, but these are international footballers, they are not little kids…
Defensively frail, yes, tactically clueless, not quite. Maybe Wenger’s baby sits his players a lot and isn’t firm with them and therefore doesn’t get out the best but, he is anything but.
