So this morning is decidedly more fun. Arsenal won, Chelsea drew (and were labelled as a small team by Pellegrini), The Spuds lost (that was lovely), Liverpool lost (Rodgers looks like he could stab someone with that nose) and Man Utd lost (Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
So all in all, a great weekend. In my post last week, I did say that what I loved about the Arsenal of last season was their ability to respond and it looks like the latest incarnation of Arsenal has the same quality.
After such a dismal performance on Tuesday, we did start slowly against an Aston Villa that had up until then conceded just the one goal, a Nico Jelavic strike that many say was harsh on Aston Villa.
But then Ozil happened.
He’d been given a lot of stick with some going as far as saying he was a flop and even to the extreme of saying we should get rid of him.
3 goals in 3 minutes
If I’d gone to the corner shop to get a biscuit from the Mallam (petty trader), I’d have missed all three goals. If I’d gone to the bathroom with a full bladder to wee, I’d have missed all three goals. It was all just so quick.
Ozil turned in a performance of the highest quality. I always felt his drop of form was not a positional thing, I still stand by that but there is merit in the argument to play him in the middle. He seemed to enjoy starting from the middle and then drifting left and right rather than vice versa.
Anyway, a response was what we asked for and a response was what we got.
Now we can look forward to the Capital One Cup game tomorrow where we face Southampton. I expect a fair bit of rotation especially at the back where I feel we shouldn’t even think of using any of our first team players (except left back where we might be able to get away with it). You’d hope to see the likes of Podolski, Rosicky, Zelalem, Akpom, Diaby and Campbell in the squad tomorrow night.
We needed that win on Saturday as we go into a difficult three match run. We face the tiny tots next week, Galatasaraay in midweek and then to front running, blimp parking, piss drinking Chavs…at Stamford Bridge. I have my fears about the game, but it’s no use worrying about that now, when the time comes we’ll face them, simple as.
That’s all for today, see you all next time.
