Hey people, it’s a new month so let me start this by saying a happy new month to y’all…
They say that a house is as good as its foundation, that is very true but in the case of a football team its’ fair to say it is as strong as its various parts working individually to produce the perfect blend.
While some believe that a football team is as good as its defence, others believe that the midfield is the gear, the engine, that part that makes everything work. The conductor of the orchestra.
Andres Iniesta for one believes that the midfield is the hub of any football team and this brings me to the discuss of today.
Over the years, Arsenal as a team has gone through different midfield combinations and it is fair to say we have had to tinker with even more to find that perfect match that could be compared to that all-conquering invincibles team.
Like it or not, Wenger has had to tweak his midfield combinations a whole lot of times since that team with the primary goal of finding that combo which would surpass the feats already laid down.
This then brings me to my question, what is the perfect midfield?
The first answer I got from a friend whom I asked this question was “Chelsea midfield na”, in my mind am like ‘bloody Chelsea fan’. Didn’t even bother to think about the question first and what makes up the ‘perfect midfield’ before blurting out his reply.
For some others, it had to be that Xavi-Iniesta-and whoever the coach put as the third guy combo. Move further and you would get more ideas like the Alonso-schweinsteiger-thiago at Bayern munich.
Whatever combo you decide to pick, you are totally right ‘cos as I always say football is a game of opinions and nobody’s opinion can be wrong.
In the case of Arsenal though, it’s fair to say we almost have that perfect midfield. For some, we have it already. Ozil, Cazorla, Coquelin, Ramsey, Wilshere, Arteta, Chamberlain, Rosicky, even Diaby and then we could add the emerging talents of Dan Crowley, Zelalem and a host of other guys who are already being bred from the youth team. What else can someone ask for in a midfield right?
The fighting power of Coquelin, the vision of Ozil, the magnitude of dexterity which Cazorla uses to touch the ball, the doggedness of Ramsey, the drive of Rosicky, the calmness of Arteta, the one-footed smartness of wilshere. Let’s not even forget Chamberlain and his diversity or Diaby with his silk touches (when he gets the chance that is). That and many other features are what give us the impression that we have the midfield we have all been craving for.
The transfer window opens soon and there is already a lot of debate as to who we should buy, who we should not buy, who to sell and who to offer a new contract. Loads of people still think having a Schneiderlein in the side would not be a bad idea at all, but then what happens to Coquelin??? It is worth noting that Arsenal have been the form team of Europe since when Coq came from that his loan spell.
This is one debate that would not end, until after the transfer window shuts. Of which it would even continue much after then.
In my opinion though, adding another defensive midfielder to the team would def not be a bad idea in any way. A schneiderlein, a Kondogbia, anyone who is tested and proven over the years and has the required experience would do.
I could write on and on and still not be able to convince you that we are almost at the perfect midfield but then you could also air your view in the comments section below.
So I end with the same question I have been tryna ask all through, Do we have the Perfect midfield yet??
Looking forward to seeing your comments.
Do have an awesome month.
