Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has been voted the Professional Footballers’ Association’s Fans’ Player of the Season to cap off a sensational debut season in England.
After arriving at the Emirates stadium from Barcelona for 30milion last summer having just enjoyed a successful World Cup 2014 with Chile, Sanchez can be said to have defied the odds that foreigners always have to wait till their second season to perform after using the first season to adjust.
The Chilean hit the ground running and it’s fair to say he carried Arsenal single-handedly for large parts of the season scoring a sensational 24 goals with 16 coming in the premier league.
For records sake, Sanchez is the first player since Henry to score over 20 goals in his debut season. Just so you know.
26 year-old Sanchez beat Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, Liverpool’s Phillipe Coutinho, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea and Chelsea star Eden Hazard to the accolade.
Hazard had already won the PFA player of the season but was beaten to this one by Sanchez.
Sanchez who scored the decisive goal in the FA Cup semi-final against Reading could feature in the final against Villa at Wembley on Saturday.
If he plays on Saturday, it would be his 52nd appearance for Arsenal this season. Who says 24 goals in 51 games is a bad return for a first season? Perfect return I must say and it would only get better as he blends in more and gets more expressive.
Following the Wembley clash, he is due to fly to join Chile who host the Copa America amid high expectations that they can become South American Champions for the first time in their history.
But the hard work has already paid off for Sanchez this season as he takes home the Fans’ player of the season award. His mum must be real proud of him and we are proud of him too.lol
Wishing Sanchez the best of tournaments at the Copa America but first up, the FA Cup final.
