So today is my last day at the office before I go for a short break. I’m bummed out actually, I wish I could come in for Christmas, but they’re saying nonsense like ‘spend time with the family’ ‘spend time with friends’
Anyway, i’ll try and have some fun over the break, I have a ton of games to play (nepa behave) and some more writing to do, so i’ll survive.
Since we last corresponded, we’ve beaten Man City! Oh that was fun. Like everyone was so good, I remember just before Toure’s effort went in, I was like this has to be the most controlled performance I’ve seen from us since the Napoli game in the champions league that was the same scoreline.
Then Toure scored
And I realized i’d spoken too soon. The next 8 minutes were hell and it didn’t help that Ramsey missed a really, really good chance right after. We held on and won, which was lovely to see. Of course naturally after that came all the talk of title challenging and all that and while I appreciate it, i’m still trying to be calm.
Before the game I think most of us agreed that a loss to Man City would have been bad, but not disastrous. The season has been such that this didn’t feel like a title decider. With that in mind, while i’m ecstatic we won and I definitely think we have what it takes to challenge for the title but i’m being cautious in my expectations.
Mertesacker is the same as he says we’re taking it game by game and it’s a line we trot out all the time, but it is one I think is prudent in this case. We play Southampton, then Bournemouth then Newcastle all in the space of a week and that will take its toll on the players and seeing as injury has decimated the team, we need to be focused. We won’t have much room for rotation and it would be important that the players we do rotate do a good job when they are called upon (Looking at you Oxlade).
Apart from that not too much is happening
Oh! It seems it’s now fashionable to like Mesut Ozil. Like duh! He’s awesome! We always knew that. The fact that some people are just cottoning on to that fact just goes to show how much people know eh?
Everyone just have words of praise
He’s very modest. The thing about Mesut is that he sees things that most players don’t even see on the pitch. He knows what he’s going to do before he does it, you just have to make that run. We’ve got special players on the pitch who provide special moments in the match, and that makes our jobs so much easier. It’s a team game but you need these players in your team if you want to continue to play as well as we are at the moment. The amount he gives to this team, the threat going forward and also defensively, he puts a shift in and people don’t see that side of the game which has changed in the whole squad.
“He is vital for us, especially when we play deep [as we did against City],”
“We want to get him the ball in the final third, that is what we are trying to do every single time.
“He is the main threat and he gives a good pass at the right moment and he can see the difference so we try and find him.
“That is the solution for us, to expose the back four and then he is really dangerous when he gets into that pocket and plays the ball behind.”

He’s awesome our Mesut, I can’t believe he’s ours sometimes. As for the title challenge, let’s see, I think we can, but I won’t boisterously assert it yet.
Let’s see how Saturday goes
