They always say the first step to solving a problem is admitting you have one.
We all know we have defensive issues at the Emirates and have always stressed the need for defensive reinforcements over time and now, Wenger himself has admitted to that fact.
Not like this is the first time he is admitting that though.
In the summer, he waited till the end of the window and said we were frail behind and we needed to add some strength to our defence even though he knew he could not do anything about it again at that period.
Right now, he has admitted to that fact again and we are all here hoping he takes steps to that effect and signs the players we all need in those departments.
Speaking at his pre-match conference, Wenger said “Yes we are more [in the market now],” he told Arsenal.com.
“We have Chambers and we have Bellerin, who is coming on well, and I want to give them a chance as well, but of course we are in the market like many other clubs.
“We work really hard morning until late night to try to get one or two players in.”
With both Debuchy and Arteta out for about 3 months following surgeries during the week, it is only expedient that we make some signings this January window.
On some team news for the match at the weekend, it is confirmed that Debuchy, Arteta, Welbeck are all out while Kieran Gibbs is doubtful for the game against City.
Looking at the bright side though, the transfer of Krystian Bielik is all but completed subject to medicals.
Speaking to Polish Press, Bielik said:
“Wenger told me what he sees in me, then asked about my strengths. It turns out that we had a similar opinion. He said I would start training with the first team under his guidance, and then it all depends on me. He knows that I have the skills, that I am determined to win and he wants to sign me as soon as possible to start working with me.
I would train with the first team and play in the junior teams, U18, U19 or U21, and Wenger says that if I am good enough to stay in the first team, I will remain in it.”
“I’ve made a decision [to join Arsenal] and I’m not going to change it. I am looking forward to an agreement between the heads of the clubs. I realize that the negotiations may take some time. I am, however, confident it will happen soon.”
Speaking on why he chose Arsenal over Hamburg after reports that he had accepted a bid from Hamburg burst out.
“First of all, because of Arsene Wenger. He is a legend, the boss as they call him at Arsenal. In Hamburg, the team has a very young coach and their target for this season is to avoid the relegation from Bundesliga. This also had an impact. Yes, Zinnbauer assured me that in the new season he would be putting emphasis on the young players, but such plans could be risky. Things may go the wrong way. Certainly it will be harder for me to get through at Arsenal. But if I succeed in three or four years, I will be at the footballing top. After all, this is one of the best clubs in Europe and certainly better than HSV. I’m going to London to fulfill my dreams. I want to prove to the manager that he did not make a mistake by signing me. But it does not mean that my goal is playing in the first team right away. I’m not ready yet.”
“To begin with I will stay in a hotel. After two or three weeks I will move with one of the English families that work with Arsenal. The rules are that all the players who are not of legal age get to billet with such families.”
So there you go, for all who has been lashing Wenger for not making a signing yet. He has made one, not the one you expected though but at least he has signed
So lets wait for the real signings now!!!!!!
