An Ode To Gabriel Jesus

There’s a lot of noise now for Arsenal to buy a striker.

That one striker that would “Halaand” the ball into the back of the net for us. Liverpool have Nunez and Gakpo, Chelsea have ‘everybody’ and Manchester United have “a poor man’s Halaand”.

I believe our strikers would come good, especially Gabriel Jesus who, despite his injury last season, scored 11 and assisted six. He’s close to his peak Gunners!

So, in light of this, I wrote a poem to Gabriel Jesus. You can also watch it in the video below.

Gabby Jesus, our priceless trickster,

Weaving beelines around defenders.

Club and Country and Manchester,

Missed your smiles, your turns and benders.

Should this season treat you right,

Free from injuries, pain and spite,

You’d sure give defenders a fright,

Much to our very sheer delight.

90min.com have published an article linking us to the winger of the moment in Ligue Un (French League One) – Nicolas Pépé.

The 23-year-old Ivorian who plays for Lille has 16 goals and 10 assists to his name. Arsenal aren’t the only ones courting this youngster though, the French news site Telefoot say Barcelona, Bayern and Chelsea among other top clubs, are in the race to sign him.

But the question is: Do we really need a winger?

Remember we’ve still got Reiss Nelson and some other youngsters who can play in that position. Except, well, maybe Nelson isn’t a top priority for Unai; we’ll have to find out.

Wouldn’t we do well to sort out our defensive frailties first before bolstering our attaching options?

So we have a few problems: A defence that needs ‘oomph’ injected in it and a replacement for Ramsey.

While many of the players on the list in the video don’t or might not interest us, there are three (3) players that stand out.

Medhi Benatia

The French-born Moroccan centre-back is tied up with Juventus until 2020. Aged 31, you might say he’s a little bit down the road but, hey!, we bought Lichtsteiner. Go figure.

The commanding centre-back has seen limited playing time this season, especially with Bonucci and Rugani in form. And while there’s a lot of noise about us going in for Eric Bailly, I’d prefer a more experienced defender. Better him than a defender who’s been decapitated by Mourinho.

Comparing the stats as at October 13, 2018, of the three (3) centre-backs linked to Arsenal, here’s what we found:

Though Kostas Manolas (he’s another defender linked with Arsenal since the time of Arsene) has played four (4) more games than Bailly (5) and Medhi Benatia (5), he had made two defensive errors, one of which led to a goal. Overall, though having played fewer games than Manolas, Benatia seems the cheaper and more experienced option.

Adrien Rabiot

Adrien Rabiot seems the perfect player to take over from Aaron Ramsey seeing that it’s inevitable that he’ll leave either in January or in May. Rabiot has played 12 games, scored two goals and made 9 interceptions. And though he seems the perfect box-to-box midfielder to succeed Rambo, something tells me Unai Emery sees Matteo Guendouzi and Ramsey’s heir apparent.

I still want Rabiot though because I see Unai sending Elneny through the door and frankly, Granit Xhaka needs competition. Pairing Rabiot with Torreira would be one to see.

Aaron Ramsey

I’m not happy to see him go but I think he or his agent has been the architect of the contract conundrum that is at the moment. And I’m not sure who’ll lose out of the two parties (Ramsey or Arsenal); Ramsey will not be short of suitors from the top of leagues across Europe, that’s for sure. The question is: Will Arsenal have a player who’ll step up and make the sort of impact Ramsey made under Arsene Wenger? We’ll have to wait and see.

Newspaper rounds: You’re a disgrace! But not your fault

Well, well, well…

Was browsing through some sports news on Yahoo when I stumbled upon this fantastic piece from Paul Parker. He’s of the opinion that though what Diego Costa did was reprehensible, it is Jose Mourinho who backs such shambles in public that is at fault.

Jose’s so vile in public that one cannot imagine if this has gone beyond mind game or that someone is just an over-pampered, brat who’s used to getting his way. Today, I label Jose Mourinho the Balotelli of managerial football.

Even Balotelli’s better, at least he apologises.

The Express reports that Costa may miss the match against Manchester City and rightly so. Costa has become the Joey Barton of the Premier League and all that’s left to do is to bite someone in the neck… He’s a talented player no doubt. And yes, I would have been glad if Arsenal bought him however, what is wrong IS wrong.

No Arsenal fan supported Giroud when he head-butted another player and this makes me think Gunners are the most logical fans in the league.

West Ham have made an £8m bid for Swansea striker Gomis reports The Sun. West Ham have been performing above expectations as this season saw them defeat Premier League champions Manchester City.

More woes for the spoiled kid Jose as he is fined £25,000 for his referee rant and Cescy-Fabregas is sidelined by injury and might miss the clash with Manchester City alongside the Costly Costa according to the Mirror.

And Louis Figo wants a shot at FIFA presidency; can you stand all that politicking and corruption Louis?

Gabriel Paulista’s first interview with Arsenal seems to point out that he is a team player. I think he speaks Portuguese more than Spanish and I hope someone at the club would help out with that.
