It’s the weekend people!
Valentine’s weekend…or rather Premier League football. I was originally happy, nut now I’m sad.
Why you ask?
Well, from the looks of it, it seems that Deadpool (which I have been fawning over for months) is indeed NOT coming out this weekend over here in Nigeria. This is depressing, like major depressing. So now I’m just going to have to find a way around it and still somehow have a good weekend.
Then there’s Sunday.
Valentine’s day for those who have people to spend it with…I’m happy for y’all, I on the other hand have a game to catch, or rather a couple of games.
Arsenal play Leicester, Sp*rs take on Man City and Liverpool play some team. A few months ago, anyone looking at this weekend would have shrugged it off as Arsenal playing a mid-table team and leaders Man City taking on another mid-table team. That will have been all to it.
But,
Suddenly it’s a battle of the top four teams. Arsenal lie in third on goal difference and take on table toppers Leicester! This is a scenario I’d only have believed in football manager but this is real life, Leicester are on top and have a great shout at winning the whole thing. Tottenham are second above Arsenal (retches) and play fourth placed Man City who don’t look very good at the moment.
If you remember the last game, Tottenham ran out 4-1 winners in a crazy game and if someone told you now that the result will be the same, when one looks at the cloud surrounding the club and how they were so easily beaten by Leicester. Then you can’t not believe it.
We are off the back of a fairly torrid period and won our first game in three league matches last week. In terms of team news, well it seems we have the same players that were available for Bournemouth and in extra good news we have Santi and Jack running again! How great is that!
So the only question is how we’ll set up. Leicester are an incredibly clinical team and their breaks are like lightning. We might need something similar to counteract this and I personally feel that’s why we’ve been seeing Gabriel ahead of Mertesacker in the last two games. Upfront you wonder what the manager will go for. There’s Giroud who’s had a fine season but who in my opinion has been a bit dodgy of late and then there’s Walcott who has been abysmal for the last couple of months. The caveat for the latter is his period of horridness has come with him on the left. You wonder if he’d do better if he was upfront and I’m tempted to believe he will. We certainly need goals from him and everyone else if we’re serious about not only this game but the league.
In midfield we will all breathe easier if Flamini doesn’t start. Now I know he hasn’t been terrible but in a game like this, I fear he may not be what we need especially with a partner like Ramsey. Speaking about Ramsey, I know I said this last week but is it possible to have a Coquelin/Elneny partnership with Ramsey on the right? It could hypothetically work and we know the reason Elneny wasn’t in the matchday squad was because he became a father, so it’s a consideration.
This game does feel like a must win, I’m trying not to sound too dramatic about it but that’s how it feels. Imagine a defeat, I don’t think anyone will fancy us for the league then, so yeah I reckon this is a must win.
Well I guess that’s it for now, fingers crossed we can make it happen on Sunday and have a lovely Arsenal inspired Valentine’s day.
Till later
