So I had a great weekend
We won, convincingly and in a fashion that would please everyone. We were clinical, we were ruthless, we were dominant. Man United had no idea what to do with us. So now it remains Chelsea to beat in the league, we’ve won everyone else within the past year.
Within all of this, I know I might be sounding churlish, but I now worry about Aaron Ramsey. I’m positive, i’m happy about the result and the performance and Ramsey did well overall but I do worry about his goal scoring form. He hasn’t scored this season. If you had told me this a few seasons ago, it would have been hardly surprising, but over the last two seasons, Ramsey has become a real source of goals for us, so to have him not score in eight games is rather worrying.
I wonder if the disallowed goal at Liverpool has a role to play in any of this. He really should have had a goal and if that goal had counted maybe it would have been the gateway for him to score even more and seriously put himself up there in the goal scoring charts.
Many would argue that it’s his role on the right, but he has played that role last season and scored from there so I am not convinced that that is the reason for his woes this season, and it’s not like he hasn’t had chances. There were two chances I could see from the game. The one that Alexis floated over for him which he really should have scored and then another where he was passed to in the box and couldn’t sort himself out.
I guess it’s something he’ll iron out soon enough
There were also times he lost the ball in critical positions put us under pressure. He was good yesterday, but he could have been better. I hope he finds his place soon.
Beyond that I don’t know what else to say about such a great game. I was so happy that we didn’t concede as it would have sucked if we did and Alexis and Ozil were amazing. There have been criticism from some quarters that the both of them haven’t turned up in big matches. I feel that has been harsh on them as Alexis always tries to make things happen and Ozil is a player who usually thrives when the team thrives, but there can be no doubt that they ran the show yesterday. They were sublime even beyond the goals they scored, they created, they ran, they huffed and puffed and split the United defence.
In my opinion, our world class players stood up yesterday. Ozil, Alexis and Petr Cech. The shot stopper kept a clean sheet and he was made to work for it as he saved from Martial and Rooney. It was lovely to watch. Moving forward we would like to see more of this in the big games. We can make it work.
Fingers crossed
